And
he said unto them,
Why are ye so
fearful? how is it
that ye have no
faith? Mark
4:40
Fear
is something many
people struggle
with. I have had
my own battles
with fear
throughout the
years and for a
time it seemed the
more my journey of
life continued,
the more
“different”
kinds of fear I
battled.
According
to what Jesus is
saying in the
above verse, fear
is simply lack of
faith. It
doesn’t mean you
do not have faith
in God. It means
you lack faith in
what God can do
for you. Fear
causes many other
things in our
lives, such as
anger, depression,
resentment, lying,
etc.
Many times
when we struggle
with a particular
area in our lives
it has its root in
fear. Fear is not
necessarily always
sinful. It can
protect us from
things that will
harm us. It
becomes sin when
it causes us to
disobey God. Fear
can keep us from
serving God the
way we should.
Fear can cause our
entire family to
stumble if not
dealt with.
Parents can
instill fear in
their children and
keep them from
serving God. Fear
is sometimes the
result of a guilty
conscience.
In
Genesis 42:21-28,
Joseph’s
brothers were
fearful because of
what they did to
Joseph. The guilt
produced the fear.
In John 12:43, we
see the fear of
man. Proverbs
29:25 says the
fear of man brings
a snare. It leads
to disobedience.
We become more
afraid of man and
what he thinks,
more than we fear
God. When we fear
man we forget God.
(Isaiah 51:12-13)
We
must ask ourselves
WHERE does the
fear come from? 2
Timothy 1:7 says, God
has not given us a
spirit of fear,
but of power,
love, and sound
mind. When we
are in fear we are
in bondage. It has
its grip on us and
once we are
controlled by fear
it becomes
idolatry.
We begin to
serve this god of
ours and before we
know it, we find
ourselves letting
fear manipulate us
away from God
instead of towards
God.
We
make the choice in
our will to allow
ourselves to walk
by faith or walk
by fear. We do not
have to succumb to
this evil force.
In 1 John 4:18, it
says that perfect
love casts out
fear. If we are
drawing to the One
who is this
perfect love, we
will not be
battling, but
instead overcoming
and allowing Him
to battle for us.
Are
you struggling
with fear? Examine
your heart and see
if there are any
areas of your life
that fear has a
grip on you. Get
alone with God and
place every one of
those fears at the
feet of Jesus.
Make a decision to
walk by faith and
not by fear.
Repent before the
Lord and ask His
forgiveness for
your lack of faith
in the particular
area you are
struggling with.
Find Scriptures in
the Bible to
meditate on each
time your mind
goes back to that
thing you fear. If
we fill our hearts
and spirit with
the Word of God
then there will be
no room to fear.
This also will
help build your
faith in God.
Remember what
Jesus did for you
on the cross. His
blood paid for
that fear you are
battling. You do
not have to be in
bondage any
longer.
Hallelujah!
Won’t
you allow Jesus to
set you free so
that you can walk
in the freedom
that only Christ
can give?
FEAR
OR FAITH…. YOU
CHOOSE!

Scriptures
to Overcome Fear
For
God hath not given
us the spirit of
fear; but of
power, and of
love, and of a
sound mind.
2 Timothy
1:7
For
ye have not
received the
spirit of bondage
again to fear; but
ye have received
the Spirit of
adoption, whereby
we cry, Abba,
Father.
Romans 8:15
There
is no fear in
love; but perfect
love casteth out
fear: because fear
hath torment. He
that feareth is
not made perfect
in love.
1 John 4:18
He
that dwelleth in
the secret place
of the most High
shall abide under
the shadow of the
Almighty.
Psalm 91:1
He
shall cover thee
with his feathers,
and under his
wings shalt thou
trust: his trust
shall be thy
shield and
buckler. Thou
shalt not be
afraid for the
terror by night:
nor for the arrow
that flieth by
day;
Nor for the
pestilence that
walketh in
darkness; nor for
the destruction
that wasteth at
noonday.
A thousand shall
fall at they side,
and ten thousand
at thy right hand;
but it shall not
come nigh thee.
Psalm 91:4-7
There
shall no evil
befall thee,
neither shall any
plague come nigh
thy dwelling.
For he shall give
his angels charge
over thee, to keep
thee in all they
ways.
Psalm
91:10-11
Be
not afraid of
sudden fear,
neither of the
desolation of the
wicked, when it
cometh. For the
Lord shall be thy
confidence, and
shall keep thy
foot from being
taken.
Proverbs
3:25-26
In
righteousness
shalt thou be
established: thou
shalt be far from
oppression; for
thou shalt not
fear; and from
terror; for it
shall not come
near thee.
Isaiah
54:14
In
God have I put my
trust: I will not
be afraid what man
can do unto me.
Psalm 56:11
Yea,
though I walk
through the valley
of the shadow of
death, I will fear
no evil: for thou
art with me; thy
rod and thy staff
they comfort me.
Thou preparest a
table before me in
the presence of
mine enemies: thou
anointest my head
with oil; my cup
runneth over.
Psalm 23:4-5
For
whom he did
foreknow, he also
did predestinate
to be conformed to
the image of his
Son, that he might
be the firstborn
among many
brethren.
What shall we then
say to these
things? If God be
for us, who can be
against us?
Who shall separate
us from the love
of Christ? shall
tribulation, or
distress, or
persecution, or
famine, or
nakedness, or
peril, or sword?
As it is written.
For thy sake we
are killed all the
day long; we are
accounted as sheep
for the slaughter.
Nay, in all these
things we are more
than conquerors
through him that
loved us.
For I am
persuaded, that
neither death, nor
life, nor angels,
nor
principalities,
nor powers, nor
things present,
nor things to
come,
Nor height, nor
depth, nor any
other creature,
shall be able to
separate us from
the love of God,
which is in Christ
Jesus our Lord.
Romans 8:29, 31,
35-39
Be
of good courage,
and he shall
strengthen your
heart, all ye that
hope in the Lord.
Psalm 31:24
Peace
I leave with you,
my peace I give
unto
you: not as
the world giveth,
give I unto you.
Let not your heart
be troubled,
neither let it be
afraid. John 14:27
The
Lord is my light
and my salvation;
whom shall I fear?
the Lord is the
strength of my
life; of whom
shall I be afraid?
Though an host
should encamp
against me, my
heart shall not
fear; though war
should rise
against me, in
this will I be
confident.
Psalm 27: 1, 3
So
that we may boldly
say, The Lord is
my helper, and I
will not fear what
man shall do unto
me.
